Many changes had occurred during 1970s. It was a time for unprecedented political and social reforms, constraints and regulations. Cultural revolutions and various kinds of upheaval were a commonplace almost all over the world. You are a twenty plus member of a society with money to enjoy and a passion for music and dancing. You prepare yourself to get rid of week long tensions and, obviously, you deserve some enjoyment. You pick out a nice suit from the shelf to dress up handsomely like an European prince who is going for a oratory.
You take almost an hour to set your hair right and you Jung in to the Chevy Nova owned by you and you go to pick up your girl friend. These kind of carefree youth and dare devils with no care attitude were common in the 1960s but this attitude came to an end by the end of the said decade. There was a vast change in the style of cloths. The suits became more formal and ! got to be stitched to suit the size of the person. The hair style also changed with more contemporary looks and permanent curls. As in every other field, music also underwent a radical change. In the 1960s music was as diverse as the societies then existence. It was a time when rock and roll became popular world wide and new musical hits sprang up every other day across the world.
Hippies, a take on the term hipster which was a term for those involved in the 1940s counter culture, were the misguided children of the sixties. They loved music almost as much as they loved mind-altering states. The political fueled music of the time was their theme song of the era. With the seventies coming strait a head music took a shift to the experimental, the invention of electronically produced music from something called a synthesizer guided music to new developmental peak.
In the meantime, many bands emerged who were not popula! r beyond their native areas. A few bands could however attract following from poorly recognized nations like Libya. Roxy Music emerged from a group of art students with no sound music knowledge and, adding to that, one of them did not know music well except for playing a synthesizer. However, they succeeded in attracting people from various strides. At their first debut in 1972, their music was treated as avant-garde in comparison to the then popular rock. Then came the heyday for Roxy Music, mesmerizing Britain, Europe and even South America. With the playing of John Lennon song, they became a hit in the US.
Roxy music had mostly youth as their fans who went on to create a separate culture known as British Punk movement in the end of 1970 and in the beginning of 1980. You cannot however blame Roxy music entirely for this. If you can not recollect any of the songs of Roxy music, just listen to the punk based modern alternative rock and the top 40. It is! certain that you will remember Roxy music while you next listen to your favorite radio stations.
